የኢትዮጵያ እስልምና ጉዳዮች ጠቅላይ ምክር ቤት የ2017 ምርጫ አስፈፃሚ ቦርድ ከሰኔ 13/2017 (ጁምዓ) ጀምሮ ሕዝበ ሙስሊሙ በየመስጁዱ በመገኘት የምርጫ ምዝገባ እንዲያደርግ ጥሪ አቅርቧል። ቦርዱ በመጪው ሐምሌ ወር የሚያደርገውን የእስልምና ምክር ቤቶች ምርጫን አስመልክቶ ዛሬ ለመገናኛ ብዙሃን ጋዜጣዊ መግለጫ ሰጥቷል። መግለጫው እንደሚከተለው ቀርቧል።

Population of Ethiopian Muslims (CIA Factbook 2006 Reference) According to the CIA World Factbook (2006), Ethiopia’s muslim population constituting 40-45% of the total population. Making the largest religious group in Ethiopia. Community analysts and demographers observe that regions with high Muslim concentration (e.g., Oromo, Somali, Afar, Harari) suggest that Muslims could very well make up 50 % or more of the national population.Though no official confirmation exists, some individuals believe PM Abiy Ahmed has indicated Islam’s share is roughly half—videos may be found on youtube. History of Mosques in Ethiopia Islam has a deep-rooted history in Ethiopia, dating back to the 7th century when the First Hijrah (Migration) took place. The Najashi (King Armah) of Axum granted refuge to early Muslims fleeing persecution in Mecca. Notable Historical Mosques Al-Nejashi Mosque (Tigray) – One of the oldest mosques in Africa, built in the 7th century. Grand Anwar Mosque (Addis Ababa) – Built in 1922, a major Islamic center. Sheikh Hussein Mosque (Bale Zone, Oromia) – A revered Sufi shrine and pilgrimage site. Jamia Mosque (Dire Dawa) – A key mosque in eastern Ethiopia. Number of Mosques in Ethiopia While exact numbers fluctuate, estimates suggest: Addis Ababa: Over 100 mosques (including Grand Anwar and others). Harar: More than 80 mosques (known as the "City of Saints"). Dire Dawa, Jimma, Wollo, Bale: Significant numbers due to large Muslim populations.
The national Ethiopian Islamic Affairs Supreme Council election will be held in July 2025 and voters registration is already started.
